With Halo 3 exactly two weeks out, the hype for Bungie's incessantly desired Xbox 360 shooter is reaching critical mass.

To celebrate the conclusion of the Halo trilogy on September 25, over 10,000 retailers nationwide will be selling the game at 12:01 AM. Microsoft's calling it "the biggest entertainment launch in history" and will be hosting launch night events in New York, Miami, Los Angeles and Seattle to champion the cause.

But wait, there's more. The first three days of Halo 3's availability--September 25 to 27--will see all Xbox Live members temporarily granted the privileges of Gold accounts, chiefly online multiplayer, thanks to promotional consideration from Best Buy. In other words, everyone on XBL will have the chance to play the year's most anticipated Xbox 360 title online along with any other XBL-enabled titled for three days without worrying about that pesky membership fee.

Other Halo 3-related activities include opportunities to play Halo 3 online with celebrities and Bungie, a Halo 3 Play & Win content from Best Buy and another from Microsoft, Halo 3 content on Xbox Live Marketplace, and the participation of Target's Halo 3-themed race car in the NASCAR Dover 400 on September 23.

Wasn't a little event called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows the biggest entertainment launch in history?

I was one of the biggest halo fanboys out there, I got the toys and shirts, calenders and sweatshirts. Even a coffee mug. But Halo2 ruined that franchise for me. The SP was nothing compared to one, and the MP was kind of lacking also. I hope they dont screw this one up too. I played a bit of the beta and it seemed to be on the right track.

I've followed the game since the RTS days, and I totally agree with you about the SP for Halo 2. MP is pretty fun though and I'd say possibly better than the original, as the pistol/sniper rifle combo in Halo:CE MP was pretty borked.

I still have some faith in Bungie, as for Halo 3 they've had a proper amount of time to work on polishing the game like it deserves. Halo 2 got rushed out the door because of the holiday season and Microsoft's desperate need for a hit for its languishing Xbox. Had they taken the extra 9 months like they did for Halo 3, I bet Halo 2 would have been even better than the original. But of course, we'll never know

As for Halo 3, we'll see in 2 weeks!

Anyone else play Halo 3 Beta? IMO it rocked. Lots of nice new features and different games to play for multiplayer.

Hey KJ, you have Xbox live? If so, why not throw your gamertag up on the Xbox 360 sticky above :)

Soon, very soon. I played on my friend's 360 for a couple of days. Halo 3 may be the push for me to get Live.

Its a bit of an investment, but I say do it if funds are available. So far I've enjoyed mine greatly, between Live Arcade, GoW, COD4, Crackdown, and a bunch of demos and other things. Once Halo 3 comes out......well, Halo 3 alone really is reason in itself to own a 360 :2thumbs:

I keep forgetting Bioshock because I played it on PC

Darkness just didn't quite tickle my fancy I'm afraid.....Stranglehold might, though from the reviews I've seen, seems like a rental.

Nothing else is going to matter 12 days from now though :pbj: :dpbj:
