I bet the actual failure rate is probably over 50%...the more you play, the more likely it is to die, so most of the older consoles that are still working are probably ones belonging to casual players. My friend's 360 just RROD'ed the other day, actually. Mine is starting to act up a bit, so it won't be long before it eats it as well.

I love the console and the games, but yeah, the hardware is poo.

I'm glad I waited for the revision version of the 360....hopefully the red-ringed angel of death will fly over my house :twisted:

Hopefully others will learn from MS's really expensive mistake. Not only did their penny pinching efforts cost them in the long run with huge warranty bills, but also with lost sales from reliability-conscious consumers.

I got a two-year extended warranty with mine -- well worth it for the piece of mind.
