Metal Gear Solid 80GB pack announced (http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/02/26/metal-gear-solid-80gb-pack-announced/)

SCEA has officially announced a new PS3 bundle, which will include an 80GB PS3, Metal Gear Solid 4 and a DUALSHOCK 3 controller for $499 (that's the same cost as the current Motorstorm bundle).

Sony keeps confusing me. First they discontinue the 80gb PS3, now they're bringing it back.
In response to incredible demand, we will be manufacturing more 80GB PS3s for North America and the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots 80GB PS3 bundle is an ideal way to offer that continued value to our consumers.
Are they just getting rid of existing stock with this bundle or are they really making more? Will the 40gb PS3 still drop to $299 by summer as has been heavily rumored over the past year? Will Sony stop confusing me so I can go ahead and buy one of these things?

Arrrggghh. :?

At least Blu-Ray movies still cost too much for this to be a pressing decision.

The real question is this: this this the SAME 80GB model, or a new one. I.E. did they leave in the BC software on this one?

I need an answer to this question, because this may be out in time for me to pick it up (looking to buy in April). There wasn't enough detail in the announcement yet.

Aww man. I will hopefully be in boot again by then. I will get to play it in the fleet though I guess.

They are pretty much phasing out the 80GB models but using a longer timetable so to reduce as much stock as possible for whenever the bigger model gets the official announcement. This bundle will replace the Motorstorm one so it will still be same 80GB model just with MGS and the new controller.

If you want BC then get the 80GB...if not get the 40GB. If you need more storage than those two you can easily upgrade the PS3 hard drive (http://asia.cnet.com/digitalliving/tips/0,3800004921,62032875,00.htm) or plug in a external one via USB.

I'll get the 40gb when it drops in price. My PS2 is only about a year old, so I can live without BC.
