Wonder of wonders, this was actually not only in stock at the video store on Friday, but the morons actually put the game on the floor rather than just the box. If I were a less honorable soul, I may have been inclined to check boxes for games, and could have snatched up a brand new copy for free.

Anyway, I've played about an hour and a half (very busy weekend), and it's a pretty good game. Good atmosphere for the game, with good graphics for non HD console shooters, but nowhere near HD or modern computer graphics for character models. Though since the enemies are non-human, that doesn't matter much; it's only the human guys that you notice. But it's not about graphics, it's about gameplay.

Which is pretty solid. The wii-mote as an aiming device proves its enormous potential with this game. Very intuitive, perhaps a little too responsive in some areas, and the crosshairs could stand a bit of highlighting over natural since it's easy to lose sight of them when moving while in shadows for example. But in general, the best control system for any console shooter, bar none. Move with the nunchuk, aim and shoot main weapons with the wii-mote. It also mixes in motion control with opening some doors, and using the grapple gun.

This one is much more fun than The Bigs. I'm not a huge Metroid Prime fan, but this is better than the GC versions. If you liked those games, you should love this. And it's worth a rent just to try the control scheme and see the future in action.
