Just under a month before it is set to be released...is anyone else as psyched as I am? I LOVED the original and Melee wasn't half bad either. I have been reading a lot of reviews on it and it should be awesome.

one of the few games that will get me to rent a Wii again.
I loved the original games, they were classic.

Honestly, this game is the closest thing I've come to finding a reason to go buy a Wii. Not close enough, but still the closest.

Maybe I'll go borrow my sister's Wii when she's not playing Raving Rabbits or singing High School Musical songs...

Also,

Looks like it's a wii bit popular in Japan already

Tails and I are really looking forward to Brawl. We still play Melee from time to time and put like 400+ hours into it. It's just one of those games that made me laugh so hard every single time we played.

I can't wait for Brawl, it's gonna be a blast. :D

Counting...the...days...

Super Smash Bros. is an amazingly fun franchise, and Brawl seems to be no exception. Lots of interesting new features and gameplay tweaks. The roster of characters looks interesting thus far. I've stopped visiting SSBB discussion boards, though, as I'd hate to find out who the secret characters are beforehand.

Definitely going to be pulling out the retired Gamecube controller, though.

All I have to say is Snake and Mario have the best finishing moves. I was watching the character clips on youtube. Definitely amazing.

About 3 years ago or something like that when I first heard snake is going to be in it, I was so happy.
I would be very surprised if this was a bad game, since the other ones were so damned good.

So how many people here WILL have this? I only know one friend with a Wii, but if I get the game I'll need more online competition that I know. More fun that way.

If the game weren't $320, I'd be all over it. But alas, by itself it is not enough to entice me to put that much money down. Which is too bad, because this kind of fun fighting game just isn't available anywhere else :(

Kenshin and I will. We're thinking about going to the midnight release, even though work is in the morning. :D

I'm not sure how often we'd get online. Do you exchange friend codes on Brawl, or something? I've never really been competitive in a lot of games, but wouldn't mind logging on to just play with some friends.

Kenshin and I picked our copy up on release day at midnight. This was the first midnight release I had ever attended.

And this game has been causing us to lose sleep. A lot of it. In my personal opinion...

--I'd seen several users on gaming boards complaining Brawl was "too slow." To be honest, if I hadn't seen this idea suggested, I never would've thought about it. It seems identical to Melee speed-wise.

--The Adventure Mode (Subspace Emissary) isn't really that great. It was more enjoyable to play with 2 players, so one of us weren't just sitting around watching. It's not so bad, but it is much different than standard Super Smash Bros. gameplay. It's quite long (took us around 8 hours to complete).

--The music in this game ROCKS!! I am a huge video game music enthusiast, but many of the pieces in this game are down right amazing (personal opinion, I suppose). If you enjoy many of the "classic" themes from the video games represented in this game, you'll highly enjoy the re-takes present within the game's soundtrack. There are dozens and dozens of tracks, as well.

--Good variety in stages. There seems to be more than in Melee, but I don't remember exactly how many were in Melee. Some of your favorites return, and you can also create your own stages. Haven't tried that feature out, as I've been too busy simply playing.

There's so many extras and nick-nacks in this game that I'd bore you guys if I tried to go through it all. A lot of it is small stuff (deciding how often which music tracks play on each stage, for example) that you don't have to spend much time in if you don't wish to. I haven't tried the online portion yet, as I don't have a spare cable at the moment, but plan to pick one up soon.

If you enjoyed Melee, you'll enjoy Brawl. Some characters have more potent Final Smashes than others, though all have their own unique flair and certain situations in which they shine best. A lot of characters' move sets have undergone slight changes and tweaks. Attacks that have multiple hits (like Fox's forward+A in the air, which is a series of twirling kicks) now actually hit the target with all the hits, not simply connecting once and sending the target flying, which was commonplace in Melee.

I know some people expect different things from games, as many haven't complained "Brawl is too similar to Melee" but, in my opinion, I didn't see how Melee could be improved on much. Wavedashing and L-Cancelling are gone (yippie! they were glitches, anyway) so that's a credit. Brawl may be considered Melee with some tweaks, new characters, stages, amazing soundtrack (seriously...it's great), and re-defined events/adventure mode, but it delivers well. Almost a week later and I'm still hooked on it like I just opened the box yesterday.

(Fox FTW! Landmasters are pwnage :D)

Fecal matter of divine status Tails. That makes me want to get a Wii. I am going to go find the soundtrack too, I love videogame music, especially old games. SNES had some great music on some of its games.

The soundtrack is leaping out in the online reviews I've seen. IGN calls it flat out the greatest gaming soundtrack in history.

The Wii is revolutionary, this game is not, sadly they have not done anything with motion sensing, which in my mind is what the wii is all about! Still the game is very entertaining for the reasons above, but it could have be oh so much better!

Oh, yeah, for sure. I forgot to mention that, but I haven't even been tempted to try playing with the Wii-mote. It was simply not meant for that kind of gameplay. It's main function is motion sensing, and when you take that away, it's hard to control yourself efficiently in a fighting game like this.

I've heard many complaints of the Wii-mote setup, so I'll be sticking with the Gamecube controller.

Well, for once, IGN may have something right. :D Seriously, Kenshin and I choose which stage we're going to play next depending on what song we want to listen to. Motoi Sakuraba's take on "Gourmet Race" is amazing, and there's plenty of awesome composers in here. I was excited about the soundtrack before the game was released, simply by viewing the composers who would be contributing.

Do you know where a tracklist is with the different artists/composers on it? I would like to see such a thing.

Do you know where a tracklist is with the different artists/composers on it? I would like to see such a thing.

At Smash Bros Dojo, there is a Composer List (http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/music/music01.html)

There are a TON of awesome composers in here, ranging from extremely famed composers (Koji Kondo, Yasunori Mitsuda, Motoi Sakuraba, Yoko Shimomura) but there are also some very talented composers who don't get mentioned very often (Michiko Naruke, Akihiro Honda, Hajime Wakai). A lot of the people do songs outside their own games, like Motoi Sakuraba giving his take on Gourmet Race.

Unfortunately, the track list is humongous, and I'm not sure if there's a complete list out.

The best I can give you is rather unconventional. At YouTube, SuperCeaserMP3 (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=4D329D41DFCC70A8) uploaded about 70 of the songs. That is -definitely- not anywhere near close. If you go to YouTube and type in "Super Smash Bros. Brawl music" you'll find a good bit of the songs. Unfortunately, I've found a few places that seem to have the entire tracklist, but they all provide downloads, rips, torrents, etc.

**Admins, if the link to YouTube is not okay, please remove it. It seems to be within the rules, as I don't believe you can rip audio/video from YouTube, but if not, please remove it.

The wii-mote can be fun as a novelty in these sorts of fighting games. I've got Dragonball Budokai 2, and it's great to mimic a Kamehameha attack.

It helps with the immersion factor, but serious play requires a different control scheme. As near-perfect as the wii-mote control scheme is for many kinds of games, it won't work for fighting games until we have a more robust system that puts you into a character in a first person perspective, and it mimics your punches and kicks.

Which is both a long way off, and very dangerous to your health--either your friends bash you in the noggin on a wild swing, or you get a groin pull trying to get that kick up.

The soundtrack featured in this game is nothing short of epic. Although, with the impressive cast of composers for the soundtrack, it was expected. Huddling this much talent into a single soundtrack is going to be nothing short of just spectacular. Just reading the list of composers for Brawl made my jaw hit the floor. I absolutely love the soundtrack.

I was also quite pleased with the cast of characters they threw in. I was hoping they'd of gotten rid of one in particular, but I'd rather not spoil it for anyone who hasn't unlocked everyone. Tails and I have lost soo much sleep over this game... it's not even funny. This game can be so random that is just never gets dull.

what is Smash Bros Brawl?

My wife and I have wii sports, and DDR for Wii, lol, we love that game!!!

My wife was interested in Mario galaxy, or a game like mario 64 for the old school N64

Is there any game like Mario Kart or Wave Race? We would really like a game similar to those too!

We are REALLY new at Wii, and just looking for some classic fun games!

Thanks!

Oh really? a new Mario Kart? Oh man, that would be nice!

So what is the Brawl? what do you do? Brawl? :D

Do you need classic controllers for wave race blue storm and mario kart?

Rand{CLR}

For blue storm and the gamecube cart, yes.

For the Wii Kart...NO! It's going to be packaged with a sweet wii-wheel. Set the wii-mote in it, and off you go.

This will probably increase price by at least 10 bucks, but who cares?

So what is the Brawl? what do you do? Brawl?

You brawl, yes. It sounds simple, but it is very addicting.

It's unlike most fighting games. Usually, you have a "Health Bar" and each attack you land on your opponent depletes health. You attack with combos, and whoever gets the opponent's health all the way down to zero first, wins!

Brawl takes a different approach. Instead, everyone starts off at 0%. Every time you get hit by an attack, your damage percentage rises. There is no health bar. As you get more damage percentage, your character "flies" easier.

Sounds good, but it's bad. You see, in Brawl, the only way you lose a life is if you are knocked off the screen. Attacks add percentage to your damage, and the higher percentage you have, the farther your character will be flung when attacked. If you get knocked off the screen (up, left, right, or down), you lose a life. You spawn back in with 0% damage, and do it again!

I can't promise you and your wife would like it, but the genius Sakurai decided to add 2-player cooperative play to just about every game mode. So, you two could always play together, as a team, if you enjoy that. It's a rather "kiddy" game, but it has a charm to it that'll keep you hooked.

There are items that spawn in, anything from ray guns to Pokeballs. :D It's hard to explain, as the fighting style in this game is rather different than most fighters.

I suggest getting a Gamecube controller if you decide to get this game, as that makes it much easier to play. Though I've heard some people use the classic NES controller accessory.

On the other hand, she'd probably like Mario Galaxy. It's oddly satisfying to see Mario jumping through space. Mario Galaxy is a little more simplistic and satisfying for people who like to pick-up-'n-play, though both are very fun (to me, anyway) and have that cartoony feel to them that your wife would probably like.

This is my first Smash Bros. game (just picked it up yesterday) and I would definitely recommend it to anyone that likes party games...it's completely insane and button-mashers will do just as well as more experienced players. I am seriously impressed by the sheer amount of content that has been packed into this disc. A big thumbs up to Nintendo for including so many different modes, characters and unlockables.

Wow! online play?

Yup. It's free through Nintendo Wi-Fi, though I've heard the wireless signal can leave much to be desired. Several people have reported that a wired connection works much better. Sadly, my sisters dog gave the Wii a topple when we visited for Easter, and it's been having difficulties ever since, hence no online play yet.

As for your earlier comment Snake, I think button mashing's effectiveness depends a lot on each player's knowledge of the game. In 1 vs 1, it's easier to react to opponent's attacks (especially slow ones) so spamming smash attacks can be easy to get through. Smaller, quicker attacks would be a better option.

Skill can make a big difference. I've watched some videos on YouTube, and have seen everything from complete beatdowns to killing opponents without hardly throwing a punch. Granted, a lot of the stages are pretty wacky on Brawl.

In Melee with link I could knock people out right at the beginning of the game on the level where you are on Starfox's ship. The one where you are looking at the side of the ship, not straight at it.
You grab them with the hookshot near an edge, do your down grab attack(he slams them into the ground and they pop up a little) then do your special hyrulian attack(the spinning move) and they will go flying off. When they do their aerial special or double jump to get back up, spin on em again. Kind of cheap though. And you can do similar things with most of the characters.

very addicting game, but its' kind hard. i seems can't adjust the playing style with power style or melee style character. the only char i play "well" ( not that great, just ok) is kirby.

I have been playing smash again a lot lately, mostly Melee though. I really like the stages and music from Brawl, and Snake, but it is basically a dumbed down melee. I hate the sticky ledges and how floaty everyone is. Knockouts are much more difficult.
And Sonic is the most lame character ever(In this game, I love sonic from his own games, but he SUCKS in Brawl).
The music is ridiculously good though.
Oh yeah, and they took out Dr. Mario. I want to bomb them with pills for that, Dr. Mario was my favorite.

And, I havent tried, but I have been told that the online play is pretty bad. My friends say it lags and all the matches are 2 Min KO fests, we only do stock matches, usually 5.

wow, seems that i still have a lot of locked character. i don't have wolf, sonic. and i dunno what else.

also many character that "floaty" dun really have the knockout skill. i'm not good at the game, but my favorite character is donkey kong, kirby and captain falco so far. i'm kinda suck at anything else. ppl kept telling me that mario and luigi is very storng character, but it's too hard for me.
