Devil May Cry 4
This is my first Devil May Cry game (I didn't get a PS2 until Guitar Hero 2 game out), and man, have I missed a great game series. DMC4 has outstanding visuals, great over-the-top hack-n-shoot action, and a story that's surprisingly easy to follow (not usually the case in Japan-oriented games). The sarcastic humor of the two protagonists is a nice touch, as well.

As I don't normally buy singleplayer games (unless I can find them used for cheap), the best recommendation I can give this one is a "must rent"...but you need to play this game. Make sure you play it on the harder difficulty setting, though..."Human" (normal) is too easy. Oh, and the PS3 version is supposed to be identical, so if you've got one of those you need to check this out too.

Turok (Demo)
I was actually pleasantly surprised by this one. I never liked the original Turok (N64) because it had a goofy, unchangeable control scheme, and never bothered with the sequel. This one controls pretty well for the most part (there are some pretty unforgivable screwups at times, though). The graphics are decent and the dinosaur animation and attacks are really well done.

I didn't like the way the character movement felt, so I won't be buying this one, but I would definitely suggest trying out the demo. The mini-cutscenes that appear when you knife a raptor are worth the download.

Conflict:Denied Ops (Demo)
This game is so graphically inferior I thought for a moment that I was playing my old XBox. The concept is solid, but it should be because they obviously looked at Gears of War, and thought "Hey, let's make the exact same game, but we'll fight terrorists instead of monsters...oh, and we'll let players switch between characters (there's only two) because that will add depth (not)".

Don't even bother with the demo unless you want to laugh. It looks bad and plays worse. A thoroughly uninteresting title.

If this is from the same bunch that did Conflict: Desert Storm and the slew that followed, then there's no suprise to me. :D

I've been having quite a bit of fun with DMC4 on the Devil Hunter difficulty. Never having played a DMC game either, I've quite enjoyed the face-paced action and the high-flying acrobatics. Haven't gotten used to Dante yet, especially after getting used to Nero's devil grabber/buster arm ability.

I got it on sale for $50, can't say I regret the purchase at all. It's a fairly long game, and I can't imagine I'd get enough out of it to make a rental worthwhile (at least for me). The game seems to have an impressive amount of pick-up-and-play ability, which is the kind of game I tend to hold on to :2thumbs:

I may end up buying it once I can pick it up used...I have too many games right now to give this one more attention than a quick rental runthrough. I'm not sure how long it is (I'm in the second one of Dante's missions...I think) but the mayhem is fun enough to make replays viable. I'm not one to go back and try for perfect scores of finding every last hidden goodie, though, and a lot of the game's replayability seems to lie in that area. The only negative is the puzzles I occasionally have to fire up Google for. Get your puzzles outta my whacking-the-baddies game!

I'm having trouble getting used to Dante, as well. I used that dang arm for everything. I've noticed at least a couple of Nero's ground combos work the same way, despite not having trained them (or even the option to) on Dante.

SPOILER: After beating on the little blue demon hotties for a bit, the sudden revelation of the rest of the toad boss about made me wet my pants. THAT was a shocker...been awhile since a game made me jump into the air.

If I'm going to 'rent' a game I usually go for the online sites that let you rent it and return it whenever you want with no late fees. You can really keep the game as long as you want.... forever if you want, but you are only allowed to have so many out at one time. It's pretty cool.

With Gamefly, at least, it depends on where you live. There are no distribution sites near me, so it was an 8-10 business day turnaround for me to get a new game. I cancelled after the first month because it was ridiculous to be paying for their 2 games a month plan when I never had more than one on me at a time...plus, if I got 2 stinkers, it'd be 2 weeks with nothing while waiting for the next ones. After experiencing the wonder that is Netflix, 2 week turnarounds are unacceptable. If they ever improve upon that, I'll give them another chance.

Never tried Gamefly. Netflix is pretty good for turn-arounds.

GameZnFlix (http://www.gameznflix.com)
GameZnFlix is a video games rental service where you can rent both video games and movies. Subscription prices start at $8.99 per month, and with it you can rent all the games or DVD movies you want, with up 1 out at a time. There are other plans available for 2 or 3 out at a time, and there's even a Super Value plan that allows you to have up to 6 games and movies at once.

Same problem for me with Gamefly. No distribution centers nearby and they never had enough of the games that I wanted to play. Always seemed that I was trying to find 'filler' games because more than likely I wasn't going to EVER get the game I really wanted to play. Finally decided that I could play shitty games any time I wanted online at some Flash website for free and just go buy the games I wanted to play and still save money.

Yeah, until there's a game rental service with the performance of Netflix, I'm not going to bother even trying the subscription route. Even though I live near a distro hub, I've heard enough horror stories of terrible backlogs and never getting desired games to put me off the whole idea for now.

DMC series is one of the few I've enjoyed, and will always go back to.
Lots of fun so they are :D they always manage to keep the fun in their games.
