Anyone have any experience with zoysia grass?

I have some shady spots in my yard I wanted to try this, but the stuff is expensive and I don't want to waste my money if it doesn't really grow as well as the hype.

hey paceman,

long time. zyosia grass, SUCKS!!!! Once you put some plugs in your yard, it will eventually take over your whole yard. Sure it looks nice, but the maintenence is awful. You have to verticut, and aerate it every year, and you can never get rid of it. I HAD it once in my yard, and I basically had to bobcat the whole yard to get rid of it. The best advice I had was from my barber. I asked him how I get rid of it, and he said, "move." Plus, it is the last to green, and first to brown. Stay away from it, and try a tall fescue/perennial rye mix.

Hey, Ranger! It has been a long time. Thanks for the advice. I did some more reading and found that it does have a lot of maintenance that I don't currently have to worry about.
