What is this fantasy football?

paceman
27th Aug 2007, 05:46 PM
Basically each person drafts a team of players.
QB
RB
WR
K
A Defense

Then each week you get points based on the performance of your players.

Rand{CLR}
27th Aug 2007, 06:32 PM
If you want some easy wins, join up and hope you get me in a given week. I know nothing about football. I'll stay active, but I'm almost completely clueless.

Baseball is completely different. You wankers need to want to play that next season. :P

If you still need, I'll join if you are not using Fox like last year

bigtwinky@gmail.com

Note that I am the reigning champ... :D

And to people who join, please do NOT leave mid year. If your team totally sucks, at least play it out. Rand had a pretty horrid team last year but stuck through it for the sake of the game.

There is nothing worse in FFL than to have half the people quit mid year. Thats what happened last year.

If you are unable to commit to 1 hour per week for 16 weeks, then do NOT sign up.

I'd recommend a few days (at least) earlier than that.

The first regular season game this year is Sept 6 (Saints vs Colts) so that would give little to no time to fix up rosters and such.

If we were drafting live, then no prob. But with an autodraft, you are never sure who you will end up with. You can sometimes get stuck with some inactives.

So the sooner the better IMO

I think head to head in general isn't my cup of tea. I'm getting my ass kicked in my two baseball H2H leagues this season, 12 of 12 (full) and 11 of 12 (midseason). I always win the first two days by a huge amount, then fall slowly to misery by Saturday. I do much better in the non H2H format, with a number of teams in the top 3 right now. I draft guys that do great over a full season, but implode in the wrong weeks/matchups.

The plus side is, the full season league is so close and crazy that 1-2 good weeks could jump me up to 4th.

The downside is, in football I'll probably lead through the third quarter of the first set of games each Sunday, then drop to a big, humiliating loss by the end of the night, to say nothing of the Monday night game.

BigTwinky

I'm just picturing a team full of Saints not being the best for FFL. Brees will be good, but he doesn't have a huge receiving corp. People are in on Colston, so he won't have the luxury of being a 2nd receiver with no name. Henderson is still young, not sure if he was just lucky late last year.

Reggie Bush can be great in a league with points per catch extra for RB. But he is still splitting time with Deuce. Either should be a decent pick.

Johnson is not a bad TE. TE is interesting this year as the position is pretty deep. You had Gonzalez or Gates in the past, then a huge drop off for the others. This year, you have a least 6 TEs that should put up similar numbers (700+ yds and 6+ TDs).

I'm not a fan of the Saints Defense.

So hey, go ahead and pick them up, it will leave other players available for me. :D

Lets please not go over 14 teams. There is a huge dropoff in quality of players when you go from 12 to 14. Anything more means that you are probably starting some people you have never heard of.

Thats cool, I'm all for making room for friends.

But when the league gets too big, it stops being fun.

Although I do predict that out of the 14, maybe 8 or so will remain at the end of the season, which will be a piss off as they will have some key players.

I can make rule as far as activity.......

BigTwinky
31st Aug 2007, 10:47 AM
Interesting? what types of rules?

I much prefer Head to Head leagues over Point leagues. But the advantage of point leagues is that if some people are not active, they just drop down. No harm on the active people other than some good players going to waste. In head to head leagues, if someone is inactive, they typically lose a game as they can have many players starting that are inactive themselves.

Although that being said, last year, I think we had someone who was inactive end up in the semis.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it and sorry for jumping in so late.

I'm all set, let the draft begin. :D

I'll have the fingers crossed for Shaun Alexander, hoping to see the big numbers from him THIS year !!

and dont ask me why but I think Jon Kitna in Detroit will put up big numbers, since he has decent receivers and will be forced to throw alot since his defense will give up huge points

To me he could be a pleasant surprise for someone.

I think Witten in Dallas is going to have a Gates type year.
TO is catching everything, now that he is concentrating and his finger is fixed. Watch for him to lead the league.

Dallas D was expected to improve drastically, but their best corner is hurting, and that will drastically change everything if he can't play.
Jury is still out.

Have fun guys. :2thumbs:

Draft is done...Jeffro, sorry to grab Bush from ya like that. The only part of your NO team you are missing. You should of picked him up in the first round and you could easily of picked up Brees in the second.

Although I'm feeling an ACL injury for Bush in a few weeks, but we'll see.

Kind of an odd draft. Some people obviously going with their favorite team no matter the logic.

Going to be a fun year!

I must have done something wrong in the predraft because I didn't get anyone that I picked. And I'm still trying to figure out how I ended up w/ the 49er's defense :?

BigTwinky
4th Sep 2007, 10:49 AM
You don't really pick anyone in the pre-draft.

You essentially place the players in your order of preference. As do all the other teams. Then the order of picking is established and the list just systematically goes down one by one.

When your turn is up, it checks to see which is your highest ranked player that is still available for a position that has not yet been totally filled (to make sure you don't end up with 8x QBs). This is probably why your SF defense was picked. The system has already all the starting positions, so looked to fill the DEF position and at that time, SF was your highest ranked.

The only person that is 100% guaranteed their pick is the #1 guy on his first pick. Whoever he has ranked #1, he gets.

I'm not complaining. I'm just doing this with my son who is beyond ecstatic that he's doing this. He knows who all the guys are that he got and he's happy having the 49er's.

BigTwinky
4th Sep 2007, 01:09 PM
Throughout the year, he can drop players and pick up others who are on the "bench".

So its important to keep up to date on who is hot and who is not. Sometimes, you can get lucky with some guys who are nothing early in the season and get on hot streaks.

So his team is not locked in. He can also try and trade with other managers.

But I wouldn't suggest offering your SF D for Tomlinson =P

Cutler was awesome towards the end of last year. He seems to be building a good connection with Brandon Marshall.

I knew that Moss and Brady would make a good team, I'm just hoping that this week wasn't a total fluke.

I'm pretty stoked with the 2nd highest points in the league, and I have Carson Palmer still to come. And Reggie Bush sucked this week

The first few weeks are always hectic. You start wondering how long you will hold on to some people before you drop them.
