Just got my PS3 hooked up to the Epson 400 (720p LCD) but no games or BD yet. Did watch some Tribe in HD plus a few DVD's and the picture is really nice so I can imagine what a HD game will look like on the big screen.

Still for $350 (w/ sony style credit deal) it's a great deal especially w/ the 5 free BD offer and the Sony Store points earned.

BTW check out Blu-ray Players (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=30&f=149) section of AVS Forums for tips on the PS3.

Also they made a BD Tier (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=858316) thread giving you a basic idea on the transfer and sound quality of the movie.

For those on the HD-DVD side of things or wanting to go "format neutral" they have plenty of info for those players as well.

I bought a PS3 a few months back to use as a blu ray player and an up converting Dvd player and it works great. It is well worth the money if you have a 1080p tv.

If you have an xbox 360 the hd dvd player add on works great also.

But the current addon does not output at 1080p. Be careful with that. There is a plan on a future XBOX 360 with a built-in HD player that DOES output 1080p.

I have:

Toshiba X-A2
PS3
Xbox 360
Onkyo reciever w/3 HDMI outs
Phillips Ambilight 42" LCD 1080p w/ 3 HDMI outs
Klipsch speakers w/ 500w powered sub

Transformers HD is going to rock...HARD! :2thumbs:

Even at 720p either one of the HD formats is going to look pretty good if the transfer was top notch (BD vr. of "300" looked great on my Epson 400 @ 85").

I know 1080p HDTV's (32"-42" range) have been dropping in price so it's makes sense to stick with a 1080p player as both can be had for less than $1800. Unfortunately in the front projector realm the few entry level 1080p models are still around $2500 yet you can get a quality 720p one for roughly $1000. So the choice is harder since there are several options to play HD-DVD's if all you need is 720p/1080i.
