So my wife and I bought this house almost two years ago. The previous owners were very bad DIYers. For example there were 8 light switches that did nothing, The doorbell was not hooked up, there was bare romex poking out under the eve, Even though there was a dedicated dishwasher circuit they had plugged the DW into the disposal circuit and on and on. Anyways I sorted the dishwasher out. However the stove defeats me. The damn thing doesn't ignite off the electrical igniter. This is what I've tried so far
1. Cleaned the burners out with steel wool and a toothpick.
2. Made sure spark was good.
3. Replaced the spark unit
4. Check the polarity on the outlet and it's right.
5. The burner will light with a match.
6. Check and made sure that the stove was setup for NG and not propane (regulator and spuds).
7. Played around with the low flame adjustment

For sh$ts and giggles I swapped the spuds over to the LNG ones and the damn thing lights but, the flame is tiny. Any ideas would be most welcome before I loose it and take a sledge hrmmer to the %^@^% thing

Sadly I did. We had home owners insurance and I had them out twice. They couldn't figure it out

1- Turn Stove on.
2- Leave house.
3- Throw a grenade inside the house.
4- Collect insurance.
5- Buy another house.
6- Check stove in the second house before buying it.

Growing up, I never saw a gas stove that lit itself. I figured it was normal to need matches/lighter next to it.

I dont know much about stoves, but this one seems to not work out of spite. What did you say to it?

I once had an electric stove which would reset itself when the oven went over 300. I beat it with a splitting maul.... Really.

I wouldn't use a grenade. Might voice your insurance... just use a bad wiring job lol.

oh thats what you have now.

They are non adjustable. Basically the stove is a counter top model and the burners are paired in an insert. I pulled the insert out and disassembled it. The igniters are held in such a way that they're obviously not adjustable.

If you put a screwdriver tip near the contact were the spark comes out does a spark jump to the screwdriver at all ? Doesn't have to be a screwdriver just something similar .. if no spark jumps across at all then your problem is further back

Homeowner insurance won't help you. What you need is a home warranty. Did you happen to get one when you bought? If they can't figure something out they're supposed to replace it for you with just your deductable out of pocket.

I've gotten a new refrigerator out of my home warranty, and a new heat pump and condenser this year. The fridge was out of pocket deductable, as applicances should be. The heat pump system was $800 out of my pocket because they don't cover anything, but it turns out the full price for a similar system is close to 7 grand.

It does get spark. I can see it.

Rand I did have a home warranty but, they were total asshats to deal with.

Is it possible to clean/file that contact crossover points for the spark. You may be getting spark but it may not be what it needs to be.

^^^ that's a good idea and also have you checked the gas Connection? you mentioned the flame was really small ? Be careful checking gas connections without the right knowledge don't blow yourself up :O

I did take a file to the contact points and lightly gave it a swipe or two. I didn't really want to go to town filing the points away. The flame was small when I put the propane spuds in. If I light the burner with the normal spuds in the flame is the normal size for natural gas. Some part of me thinks its the fuel air mixture...

Well it's one of two things improper fuel mixture or weak spark. I'm thinking of replacing an igniter and seeing if it helps. I'm kinda doubtful cause I doubt all four igniters would be bad,
