ok I added 2 more gig of ram and windows vista has been bugging to me activate it ? IT says unless I reactivate it in 2 days vista will stop working [because new hardware was added??]. So I click to activate it online and it says I have to enter my vista activation key, so I enter the one on my install kit. Then it says the product key is already in use. Wtf?

Do you have to call them to get a key for activation or something?

Hmmm this sounds like the problem when switching motherboards when using Vista OEM. Never heard of it happen with RAM before though. :?

You have to phone microsoft up and the free phone number mate and explain to them that you have add more memory to you computer.
Also you will kick your self when I tell you this as well what you should have done is refresh you computer rating on the welcome on vista.

are you using the 64bit or 32 bit version ? I'm sure it'll do that no matter which version you use.

Funny thing is, I just upgraded an XP Pro Upgrade retail box this and also last weekend, with the following hardware changes:
Video Card
RAM (amount and type)
CPU (single to dual core)
... and it never once bugged me about activation !!!!

So far I've upgraded an XP Pro OEM installation on this machine with an 8800GTS, from a single-core to a dual-core, added a sound card, and added an extra hard drive. It hasn't complained at all. :D

Well I called up the toll free number and lady actually helped me out. I didn't sense an Indian accent, but if she was she hit it really good lol. She said for some reason sometimes you can't just activate it online, so I did it over the phone with her and it worked ^_^. Yay!

Everyone said wait for the first service pack, now I am probably going to wait for the second service pack, or maybe just wait till I get a new computer.

Glad it started working for you. :2thumbs:
Adding RAM seems to be the best and cheapest way to upgrade any
computer.
I know people who have moved to a new MOBO, and had to
call Microsoft to activate again. Lucky you got help so easily.
Newegg is MY choice for all my computer parts needs. :2thumbs:
Just got a new headset/mic from them, and it got here in no time.
One of the best investments i've made.

It odd that it made you reactivate. I upgraded my RAM from 2GB to 4GB a few months ago, and Vista didn't complain at all.

And that's how it should be. I always thought that the Vista license was tied to your motherboard only.
