While I was in Madison. I noticed that the tap water was always white and cloudy. Ppl say it is drinkable and that it is just minerals or air bubbles
But recently, I got a glass of cold water from a dispenser and left it over night. The morning I woke up, the water was white cloudy just like the tap water in Madison. How is this possible? I thought that problem was specifically of tap water

Hey, Evil.
I'm not sure. I've not seen cloudy water here at my place. Have you checked water at other places in Madison? I wonder if it could be pipe/plumbing specific...or maybe something from a water softener or the limestone bedrock? There has been talk of salination of the lakes, due to runoff from road salt in winter, as well...and that's something that's a little more dificult to remove from fresh water, if I'm not mistaken.
At any rate, I do run my tap water through a Brita filter before drinking it...because I've little trust in 100+ year old pipes, etc.

I have always found the constant cloudy tap water suspicious at my place. But the managers always tell me it is just minerals.
Anyway, i dont know about water in other places. I usually just drink from one of those water fountains in public places

We always say over here, water must be colorless, tasteless and odorless (if that translated correctly...)
I know they say the cloudy one is just minerals, but you know... it is not very attractive. :puke:

You want your drinking water to be attractive? Only the beautiful water gets chosen. :D

Minerals do not make water appear "cloudy". The hardest waters in the world are just as clear to the eye as pure H2O. Cloudy water is usually either:
Undissolved sediment contaminants, which I guess you could call "minerals", but this is a symptom of plumbing issues.
Dissolved gasses, under pressure from modern plumbing, water can become saturated with various gasses. Out of the tap, the gasses essentially boil out at a slow rate. This is most obvious in hot side tap water.
Bacterial and algal blooms also cloud water, most often seen in newly set-up aquariums and improperly stored water. You should never see this "from the tap" in a developed country with modern water treatment methods. This seems like what you may have observed from the water dispenser, I would have it thoroughly cleaned before using it again.

+1
In developed nations tap is as safe or EVEN SAFER than bottled water. although the end plumbing may be adding stuff to it.

You might need a napkin with that.

lol you all haven't evidentally exspienced aquafirs or well water or reservoired tap water, cloudy can become muddy and even colored with such enviroments, it can come from not only new developement but also from either that of hot days or extreme cold or frost developements
not every glass of tap water looks like it came fresh out of an Evian container:bump:

As a 25 year retired Field Ops Manager for NYC DEP ( Controls NYC Water & Waste Water Systems ) I can only attest for NYC when I say....Air becomes trapped in the water as a very large volume of pressurized water travels down the long distance of aqueducts to the City. The water, as a result, can sometimes appear cloudy or milky. This condition presents no threat to public health. The cloudiness is temporary and clears quickly after the water is drawn from the tap and the excess air is released.
If the cloudy appearance persists for long periods of time you should have the water tested. Air is the only thing that should appear to make your water cloudy and should clear rapidly once out of the tap.
Everything else should be tested IMO.

Well it should, evian(along with practically all bottled water companies) just bottle unfiltered tap water. Fiji water, I believe it is, is actually bottled in New Jersey. And is just tap water....Good scheme.
I am glad the water here clears up after a minute or so, unclean water is scary.

I use filters also. I think the one we currently have on our tap is Brita and we also have the big gallon brita filter container in the refrigerator.
I never have trusted tap water. I grew up on aquafirs and just don't trust water so easily content controlled.

You have it wrong. That whiteness makes the water taste good. I can't stand drinking Ozarka or any bottled water. They are tasteless. My houston water tastes a bit... well it has some kind of taste. Which I enjoy.
