View Full Version : Time to Call it Quits

Slaughter

Since late August of 2007 I've had a custom built server co-located in St. Louis. One which was built to run UT3, which didn't turn out as most of us had hoped for. Even so I have been running various mods for UT3 as well as free hosting UT3/UT2004 servers for Pinky's Playhouse and the T5K Clan. I also ran a TF2 server which was fairly busy until the achievements came out and along with it, achievement whores which ruined it for me.

But now it is time to call it quits. After the end of this month the game servers will be stopped and the server box will be relocated back to my home.

I want to personally thank Cain once again, who graciously allowed me to "take over" and host Onslaught for the CLRs who still loved it when he closed his UT2004 servers. (Given that some of his UT2004 server competition is still active today, I think he could have mopped the floor with them for a couple more years had he chosen to continue. :2thumbs:)

I had the pleasure of meeting Cain and his wife in person during a trip through South Carolina and it was a great priviledge. And yes, I witnessed the awesome Cain Home Theatre. "Master and Commander" was thundering through that sound system. What a great treat.

To help keep this short(er) I also want to thank all the CLRs who I've met since one fateful day when I joined an Onslaught server that had "Cain's Lair" in the name. And all the others who followed, such as the Titan community and Pinky's, I wish all the best.

Thanks to you all for some very fun times. I'll continue to post now and again.

With love and regards,

Scott

Slaughter, I hope you continue to post here. Just because you are not playing a current game does not mean this is your home.

It is tough to stop playing a game that you have played for so many years. I guess you have to wait till the next game like UT or something that catches your eye like this series did.

Way to hang on all the time Slaughter. :2thumbs: I don't know if you know this or not but it was a pimp message from you that was a big part of me adding the lair to my favorites. :2thumbs:

Some of us still play UT2004 . I average 2 two to 3 hours a night and still get my rear kicked.
I might have to give BC a try . I played the single person game and it seems nice.
I really wanted to stop by and just say Hi to anyone that might remember me.

Welcome back Porkinator. I was on the CS side but, I remember you.
Back years ago, Cain ran UT and CS. There were actually two separate communities on the forum. :D

Slaughter,
When you say UT3, Do you mean Unreal Tournament 2003 or Unreal Tournament 3? I was just wondering what you ment by "UT3/UT2004"

Unreal Tournament 3, not 2003.

2003 is the one that shall not be named. If it is named, it would be referred to as UT 2k3.

lol Not if Google sometimes wants to give you search results of UT 3 instead of U2k3 results. I dont know why they have naming all jackup. They could had name UT3 as 2007. Anyway I was diggin in a box of Sega Saturn games (wanted play my old Sega Saturn) and I found my Unreal Tournament 2003 game disks for PC. I thought I lost them. So I installed them and I ran into a issue with the master server.

I got fed up searching so I made a account over at the Epic Unreal Tournament 2003/2004 forums (http://forums.epicgames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=249) and when I try to make a new topic. It tells me I have insufficient privileges. I cant win!

I'm not even sure UT2k3 has a master server. It was so horrendous a release that Epic not only just folded up shop and incorporated basically every part of it for free in 2k4 but they also offered up $10 rebates to everyone who bought it who then got 2k4.

I dont know what it could be. Gametracker.com and game-monitor.com doesnt show anything but I did find one server by google that was still active. Bring back old old memories. I still play the old UT99 from time to time, I'm just not as twitchy as I once was before.

Anyway here is my lil collection :D I some how miss placed UT99 Disk 1 when I built my new pc. The orignal UT99 jewel CD case broke :( Good thing UT99 was before they came up with CD keys cause I have no idea where the manual is lol.

I deeply apologize for not seeing this post when it was made, that is my bad.

Slaughter is a great guy, and a good friend. I will always appreciate that he gave our hardcore UT players a new home when we moved to Battlefield 2.

I know he was active in and important to the entire UT Community.

I hope you are playing something these days, and will not be a stranger here, where you are ALWAYS most welcome!

I haven't been here in forever, but I used to play ut2k4 here. I got nostalgic today and looked up ut3 on steam to think about buying. Is there still any fun to be had in ut3 or 2k4? Lots of hackers now? This forum seems mostly dead, I know the games old but I miss the old days.
