View Full Version : Patch FINALLY coming Wednesday

"After a lot of trials and tribulations, all versions of the game client has now completed QA successfully.
We will do no more testing on it.
All game servers will need to be taken down for updates. The maintenance period starts on Wednesday Jun 30th at 07:00AM (GMT+2). Most of them should be back up by 11:00AM (GMT+2).
During this time window, we will also release the new game client.
Check back after 11:00AM (GMT+2), and try out the new game client!"
Officially from DiCE
Linkage (http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/bc2-pc-service-update/1196780-client-r8-server-r15-release-info.html)
Let me be the first to say, ABOUT DAMN TIME. And, I wonder what else they broke lol

Wow.. No mention of VOIP anywhere in the changelog.
Apparently they've given up on it!
Also from the post:
"The client patch is approximately 890MB large. The list of changes is pretty much the same as is listed here (http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/bc2-pc-service-update/1088496-client-r8-server-r12-qa.html). I'm going to write a post which explains some of the background behind the delays later tonight."
EDIT: This is just in time for me to join you guys! I will finally have my new rig up and running in a few days when A&M sends me my cheap copy of Windows 7.

Wonder if it will fix the typo for the medic pack upgrades....
example: medic heal speed increase is called " r+" while range increase is "h+" should be flipped

No mention of Hot Carl? That expanding hitbox part seems kinda weak also. I thought it was supposed to be harder to hit moving targets.
At least I can chat when dead now.:D

Server - Ticket counts and bleed rate are controllable per-level

Server - Initial spawn delay and respawn delay are adjustable
Gameplay - Countermeasures can be fired when driving a helicopter
Gameplay - The brightness of the pilot view in the Russian helicopter has been reduced
Dislikes

No mention of VOIP fixes!

Yeah, you would think as big as it is there would be more changes listed.
Here are a few things I am looking forward to in the patch:
Gameplay - G36 now has crosshair when in Hardcore mode
Server Browser - Join queue system when attempting to join a full server
Server Browser - Pings are sent via an alternate mechanism, which should work for non-Administrator users as well
Client - Toggle/hold crouch is user controllable
Client - Toggle/hold zoom is user controllable
Server Browser - Servers are sorted into 3 categories: Normal, Modified, Hardcore depending on their settings
I wonder what 'Modified' means?

Hopefully HC that will allow admin to allow crosshairs (at least on mounted weapons) and minimap... hopefully. :)

"Modified? mode means that the server's settings have been changed from the default values. Cain will have a few more options for how the game is played.
'Players can see whether a server is normal / modified / hardcore in the server browser. A grey skull icon indicates a ?Modified? mode. A yellow skull indicates a ?Hardcore? mode.'
A modified server will have a non-default setting for one or more of these: friendlyFire, killCam, miniMap, crossHair, 3dSpotting (spotted targets marked with icons), miniMapSpotting (icons), and thirdPersonVehicleCameras.

What, crosshairs?!!! I was thinking hardcore players should have blindfolds!!! :D:wink:
But seriously, what a great idea to have guns with sights...I didn't think we'd come up with such advances even in my lifetime. Really amazing world, when you think of it.

hey, at least the MG3 is getting a damage upgrade. thge only way to kill anything with the gun is to completely catch someone off guard, who is afk, in the middle of logging out, crashed, or stuck.... i'll be sad to see the AN-94 coming back to its glory though.

Maybe not.... these might fix it..
Server - Some potential sources for lag/rubberbanding have been eliminated
Server - reduced latency in packet handling
What I want to know is what the heck is this?
Client - Improved Play Now functionality
edit oh I get it immediately jump in a server

Apparently before this patch the "Play Now" option would suggest passworded or empty servers. How could you honestly make that mistake? DICE/EA really need to test their games more before releasing them.

I updated...didn't take too long with my connection. Hardly anyone else has it updated yet (server with most folks at the moment with new version has only 8 ppl in it, and there are only about 6 with anybody [hardcore filter on]). Cain's server needs to be updated yet, apparently, as I can't get on it. Will check back tomorrow. :wave1:

Here's an interesting read from one of the big names at DICE working on BFBC2:
Clickly (http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-bad-company-2-pc/1199353-software-engineering-file-formats-build-processes-packaging.html)
It actually explains a lot about the difficulties of implementing each subsequent patch, in an easy to understand manner. It was just posted yesterday as a response to all the hubub about the many delays.

Custom binds may be reset, check em before you start playing.
The ability to toggle crouch and aim down sight are on the main settings screen, near bottom.
You may want to defrag after this huge patch :)

Yeah, had to reset my binds. Also, I played one game...seemed to almost come to a halt at times...chunky game play, not smooth...hopefully was just the ping, but seemed more than that. We'll see tomorrow on the Lair.

Aw Phantom you got to moan about everything. I played the new one and like the que system much better. I'm still on the Aug but will use the MG3 to see how it does. Somebody already stated that it was much better. I dont know what they were doing to the AN 94 but I'll try it again next.
I'm through with all the Platinum weapons on assault. Need to work on medic and eng. for a while. I played on a server in Australia at about 300 ping and it was pretty good game play. At least for me. And the toggle crouch thing is just like Cod, so thats a plus. I dont think they regressed in anything.Seems ok to me. I'll be able to tell more when I play at the Lair cause I know exactly how things have been for me there.
When is the server gonna get updated.

Well, Steam does automatically update, so I hope the server is updated or will be soon.
Good news everyone: the M1 Garand finally works right. And it's very powerful. Bad news: the all weapons bronze (and therefore, all bronze) insignias are still busted. I now have all weapons at least at bronze but didn't get those two. That's 15,000 in bonus points just waiting for another fix. :(
More points for capping flags. :2thumbs:
I didn't TK anyone, but I saw they also raised the point loss there to a full -100 points. Too many people get run over when I'm in a tank, or run into my mortars/nades for this to be good. Funny though. :D
EDIT: oh, forgot this big con: the chat box is now a true, VERY obtrusive box in the upper left corner. It sucks big time.

Yeah, I noticed that. Was messing around in the server with Warhead a few minutes ago...just trying things out. We were typing to each other and I was thinking, man, I hope nobody chats when a chopper's incoming, or there are snipers up on a hill or in the lighthouse I'm trying to shoot: that is a big blinder. Also doesn't seem to be any mini map, so finding baddies in ur base will be awful tough...but good for when ur the baddy.

I dont chat ingame. Has anyone tested it out yet? Same issue?
I tell you one thing though, ever since I got the game I never exited the game without it crashing and causing me to use CTRL ALT DEL to end the task. And after a 1GB patch that didn't fix it, I really was mad.

Probably an NVidia or Intel thing: mine's never done that. :D
Oh, they weakened the snipers. Warhead and I were testing them, he shot me in abdomen with Col and I lived. I switched to M95 (which I don't like) and shot him in the rocks at 50 yds and he lived (maybe he's just got tough ones). With magnum ammo you can do one shot kills, but not without, it seems. Not that it will lessen the sniping (they'll all just use magnum if they don't already), but I guess it's something.

Frankly, other than having to fix my binds, and the new, UGLY, chat/message system, I didn't notice any differences. None of my friends were online at the time, so I don't know if that is fixed. And I wasn't playing with friends so I didn't try out the VOIP.

For arty, you have to hold the right mouse button down (not just click it) while selecting your target.
I do like the fact you can chat and see chat while your dead. I never could before.
On my screen the 12x scope doesn't have a horz. line all the way through anymore, so no crosshair point. Something to help make snipers less effective maybe?
The M60 seems less effective and accurate also.

I noticed the decrease in sniper damage as well when I was trying to finish off the Bronze on the M24. Sux for me cause I am a crappy sniper and almost never get headshots, but probably good overall... Is there a list of all of the gun changes?
The chat change didn't really bother me. I am glad that you can read it and type when dead now.
VOIP definitely still broke... :cry::cry:

Yeah - moving the Kill Messages to the other corner sure makes it harder, but otherwise they were covered by the map that comes up when you're dead. After awhile you'll probably get used to it being there instead.
