I haven't heard a peep from the servers I've been playing on.

Has anyone heard people using VOIP?

Yes! But results are mixed. My VOIP transmissions have always failed, so I stopped trying. Many other players have always had success.

My opinion? If I'm squading with people I know, I always like hearing somebody coordinate the squad (even though I need to type my response). More often, I'm in a squad of random players. Random squad mates usually respond to the instant requests for ammo, rides, etc., but that's not as much fun as planning our next tactical move.

Theory: If only one or two people on a squad can talk, it's natural for the lack of feedback to feel like negative feedback. The talker begins to wonder if anybody can or wants to hear him. This gradually nudges everybody into silence, as you've noticed.

I'm sure if VOIP is enable on many of the servers due to is sporadic use. I played at a friends clan server one night and they use Vent so they don't use the in game voip which makes it tough when you have public people in there.

I was just in a game last night and at least 2 of the guys in the squad was doing great using VOIP. We pretty much rocked in capturing and defending the objectives. VOIP makes a world of difference for coordinating offensive and defensive maneuvers :2thumbs:

Yeah it's a good size. My directory in the SteamApps area is 6.13 GB.

I was playing with Dead&Gone the other night (I think that's who it was), and we had VOIP working for a while, then we switched maps and it quit working... :(

I'm playing with 3-6 player I know and have played in years with, and we are using TS2 and TS3:D
Almost all the time other players call us cheaters, only because we works as a team and not as one man:twisted:

Tell. them that. If they are too stupid to work as a team they need to realize its not a lone gunman type of game.

I have a question, Is there any advantage to use skype or Teamspeak? I've used teamspeak before in COD4 but I always feel like people who are using those programs alienate other people from the chats.

Right now, with the game's VOIP often broken & unused, Skype or Teamspeak seem to be the only way to play as designed. Yes, since most squads play in silence, coordinated squads have an advantage.

If it's me, I'll either accept that I don't hear the conversations (won't know the difference) or I'll move to a different squad.

If the ingame VOIP worked as planned, there would be no reason to use outside apps. As it is, there seem to be a lot of bugs in the in-game VOIP, so it might be worth it to use TS, skype or vent. It is really only beneficial, though, if the entire squad uses it.

Yeah same here but we use Steam chat since most of us are Steam buddies as well.

Speaking of steam have you been able to get more than two people chatting in steam at the same time.

I think people are so used to the failure that is VOIP in BC2 that most don't bother.

One evening with D&G was the 1st time anyone ever spoke on VOIP. I had to figure out which key it was so I could respond. We used it most of the round and it suddenly stopped working. SNAFU.

Sunday playing all I could hear of Cain and Duke was very garbled and cut up. Others said they could here them fine....

Seems odd because VOIP worked very well in BF2.

Yeah the VOIP is hot or miss. Sometimes the guys are clear then sometimes they are dropping every other word....

Then sometimes it just stops working..

You REALLY need Voip, and Apache NEVER reads typed messages!!
