Hey I'm helping deadly install call of duty 4. Every time I start the game in single or multi player it says there is an error and a .dll file is missing, it is D3DX9_34.DLL
Has anyone had this or could help...
I patched it and also he is on windows XP

Are you starting a client or a server??
You need to copy the DirectX files from the installation CD.

Uh it is client. I couldn't find the .exe files in the call of duty folder, but only saw the .exe's on the desktop. I'll try to find the .dll on the disk.

If you're sure directX is installed correctly (and if it isn't, go to microsoft.com, search for directx, and install it) then you can grab that exact file here... (http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3dx9_34)
That site is good, I've used it quite a bit. Once you get the file put it in your windows/system32 folder.

That's what I ended up doing and i put it in the system directory. Seems to work fine now! UGH. Now to install on my own computer. Hopefully it will be more smooth.
