Time for a new vid card. The price on the geforce 8600's is great right now. I either want two of those SLI or what about one 8800. The price for 2 of those is still way cheaper then one 8800. What do you guys think? :?

Don't bother with the 8600 unless its the only thing you can afford. The 8800 series is so far above it in performance its just not worth considering. Also, the HD3850/70 are actually good midrange cards from ATI, and they match or almost match the 8800GTS 320mb in most games.
Check out the thread I made answering someone else's question regarding the 8600 vs more expensive cards:

If I was in the market for a card right now, and I couldn't afford an 8800GT, the HD3850/70 would be next on my list. The 8600s, even in SLI, just aren't worth your time.

yeah, the 8800 GT is the top of the line, or following that I'd go with eh 8800 GTS. Personally I'm a Nvidia fan and up until now at least they're top of the line in hardware and software. Which would lead me to them in the future.

stay away from the 8600 if you have the money. 2 8600's in sli still isn't worth a good 8800 gt, gts, or gtx.
i'm with carbon here. 8600 is the biggest piece of junk. i wouldn't even class it as a mid range card with its severly nerfed product line.

I saw a deal on the 3850 for $170 yesterday, so as fas as I'm concerned that is a very good price for a very good card.
I hadda at least dig up a link, so here ya go:

I have two 8800 GTS in SLI and will tell you that I would invest in one 8800 over two 8600 in SLI.

Thanks guys. I think I will wait till after christmas and get me an 8800. IF you have info on newer cards coming out let me know. I have had my 7800GTX OC card for nearly 2 years and it's been great to me. I will stick with Geforce and I have had great success with BFG.
Thanks again for the info it probably saved me in the long run.

I own a bfgtech 8800gts 640mb card and love it, plays CoD4 online perfect along with UT3 and TF2. I actually have yet to see a game that it won't play smooth as butter for me.

odd though, not to detract fro mthe topic, but are you aware that HD is ONLY 2.1 Megapixels?

2.1mp for now. Wait till the super duper HD resolutions come out. And we still won't be able to tell much of a difference in picture quality.

I guess should have mentioned that I play Cyrsis. Will one 8800 rip this game apart or am I still going to be in the mid/low setting. Basically what I am getting at is for anyone that has the game you gave low-high and then a setting I can't touch which is very high. Will the 8800 series allow me to go to the very high setting?

Crysis is a screamer. depends on the resolution you plan on running it at. STAY AWAY FROM THE 8600 OR 8500 IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON ENJOYING THIS GAME.
Crysis is vicious on video cards. an 8800 will give you an enjoyable experience, but don't expect to play it at 1920x1080 @ High settings on anything less than an 8800 GT/GTX/ULTRA/GTS. shoot. even then, one card still can't do it "properly". this game can and will bring a system to its knees. but, with an 8800 model card, you'll have to sacrifice alot less than if you tried the same thing with an 8600.
