Bill's hat is from Left 4 Dead the OLD guy's name is bill :twisted:

Bill's Hat: You get this by pre-ordering L4D2

Hats: Random drops (very rare) that add nothing to gameplay except making your character look good. I don't remember the formula, but I believe you get a low chance of getting one every three hours.

Halo: A few months ago, after the introduction of hats, people started idling. Even servers popped up whose only purpose was for players to join, sit there the entire day, and try to collect hats. Someone even made a script that did not need you to play the game and still "idle" so you could get a chance. Valve allowed this to happen until one day they suddenly said "NO IDLING!" and removed all idlers' hats. Those who did not idle got a halo as a reward. You can no longer get this hat.

Ghastly Gibus: Hat that can be obtained by dominating a player who is wearing it. I have this hat and I'll wear it from now on so you guys can get a chance to wear it.

Its what commonly called "Fluff".

I remember when Dark Age of Camelot introduced fluff into their game... you could wear hats, carry items that had no impact on game play. They are things that make people play longer to achieve and then parade around showing it off.
