I've been holding off on UT3 dues to mixed reviews,... but it seems there is a growing movement for COD4,...
Gimme you thoughts here,....
Thanks,

Geddy I played my first MP map just a second ago got promoted the private frist class and I love the game. To me it's more fast paced than BF 2142 the only problem I had tonight was some of my team players were killing me but other than that it was fun.
If Cain gets a COD4 server going I think we could see the kind of playing level that we all had when we had 2142 here at the Lair. But thats my opinion of the game so i am sure there are others that have a different opinion of it.

When somebody says "I think we could see the kind of playing level that we all had when we had ut2k4 ONS and CTF" then i'll finally strike real interest into the game. Sorry, but my experience with 2142 was one of constant TK's and asshats, so I honestly hope it isn't like 2142 player wise.

One of the options for team damage in this game is Reflect. This removes the TK and still makes one think before he/she pulls the trigger.

Geddy,
As you can see we have split opinions and that seems normal to me since everyone has different tastes.
Whether its UT3, TF2 or COD4 each one has it's own appeal.
I think you need to focus on the opinions of people that you think share your style.
I own all three so I look forward to seeing you in ONE of the games :D

Since there are no vehicles, TKing isn't a problem at all if friendly fire is off. If it's on, as Duke said, there's a reflect damage option. :)

Actually, tk'ing won't be the issue: severe asshatting will be. If anyone played America's Army shortly after it was first released, you would know that TKs get you sent to "prison." So nobody would do that deliberately (same as reflect damage).
However, there were asshats galore who would decide to pick YOU for a round, and follow you everywhere you went, trying to get in front of your gun so you would shoot them and get forced tks. That's going to be a big problem unless FF is off completely.

FF off? Sounds good to me. :)
I think with FF on it would be too much of a pain. It isn't one of those games where you can sit there for a minute to make sure you're shooting at the right guy; you'd be dead before you press the trigger. It would probably slow the game down dramatically. So far all of the 50+ player servers I've been on have FF off.
I've encountered another form of asshatting though. Since you can't walk through other people, some teammates decide to stand in the middle of a narrow passage so you can't get by.
Just a little while ago some guy was standing right beside the spawn, stopping me from exiting. I was trapped in a little 5'x5' corner, and since there's no suicide button, I had to wait there until someone whipped a grenade into the room getting 2 free kills. :pissed:

I have not played on any FF off completely servers as I play on HARDCORE mode tactical servers and I have yet to find an asshat.

I know "Ranked" Servers have certain standard settings.
Anyone know what they are ??

From what I've experienced playing on the current top servers, FF is usually off. Killcam is usually off (why?). The longest respawn time so far has been 5 seconds. They all seem to have at least 4-5 maps in rotation, I guess since rounds in CoD4 are shorter than games like 2142. The largest servers I've seen so far are 54 players.
That's not exactly official, but it's what I've seen on the 50+ man servers so far. :)

That would be in DM and TDM servers though, settings are vastly different to those on servers running tactical hardcore servers and the other various game modes.

Ah yeah. Although Team Death Match seems to be the most popular anyway.
Regarding maps, they all seem to be popular, and they're all fun IMO. There isn't a single map that I've seen so far that I don't like. :) If you sort the server listing by map, they're pretty evenly distributed. Overgrown, Wet Work, Strike, Vacant, Countdown, District, to name a few, are pretty good if you ask me.
Shipment with 50 people is a riot. The map is just a small square with a bunch of shipping crates thrown around. It literally looks like a 4 on 4 map at the largest. Really tiny. When you put 50 people in it, grenades are flying everywhere. You don't live very long. There aren't enough spawn points, so both teams spawn from the same points; hold the trigger as soon as you spawn and you'll get kills. The round lasts maybe 5 minutes at the longest. As soon as it ends, 5000 lol's flood the chat screen. It's worth trying a couple times. It's a quick few minutes of utter chaos before you go back to a map with a little less chaos... It's fine when you have a lot of other maps in the rotation, but if it was only 1 of 4, it would probably get annoying.
Good times...

Went to Sams club to buy other stuff today, and wouldn't you know it ... they were out of COD4 .. and damn near every other PC game.
Another gamer was aside of me and muttered to his wife 'Well, its off to Walmart for us, they don't have sh__ here' .. lol, my sentiments exactly.
