I haven't seen it in person yet but one of my co-workers got one and has nothing but praise for it...especially the price compared to the other PS3 versions.
While I'm still happy my 60GB version it's nice to know if the time comes to replace it the wallet won't feel so empty...:D

Yeah, the replacement factor is the best thing going for it. When I bought mine refurb, I made sure to get backwards compatibility since I didn't have a PS 2, so I would miss that.
Ask your co-worker how much heat the thing puts out. I have to open one of the doors to my entertainment center to keep the frigging thing cool enough so keep the fan from spinning into ROAR mode.

lol, remember when gaming was so quite back in the NES, SNES, Genesis, Playstation and Saturn days :D (don't count the 3DO system cause they had a lil fan) I think the noisiest system had to be the Dreamcast Vrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......
Sorry for going offtopic...:blonde:

Yep instead of consoles we should just call them PC Lites...:D
I did bug my co-worker a bit more about the Slim...he doesn't keep it enclosed so no idea on the heat factor. I had to come up with solution like this one (http://mickwest.com/2007/06/02/cooling-ps3-cabinet/) for the heat because mine was located in the back of a closet in the HT room and the fan would always kick on high.
Granted I had to go a bit further and vent thru the closet wall via flexible ducts into the attic then back into the HT room but the two USB Thermaltakes are very quite on low speed (one runs w/ the PS3 and the other w/ the receiver via USB hub).
BTW if you want a more elegant solution w/o breaking the wallet then check out the cabinet fans by www.coolerguys.com.

I probably do need to break down and put in a couple of USB fans for that cheapo back cover thing that comes with all modular furniture now (at least it's easy to cut through).
My receiver gets hot as hades, especially as it vents UP, and it's only about an inch and a half from the bottom of the tv shelf. I'm half afraid the thing is going to literally light my cabinet on fire one day.
That would suck.

-RandKnock on wood! Your receiver isn't too close to your ps3 is it Rand? My receiver was one shelf under my ps3 and when I switched it to the bottom my ps3 didnt kick into over drive anymore. :2thumbs:

No; the PS 3 is below the receiver on another shelf. I've got the receiver on the slightly taller highest shelf, closest to the cable hole in the cabinet.

Ive got the Slim :2thumbs:
And yes it does get really hot but only near the back where the internal power supply is, not a big deal. But PS3s do need plenty of ventilation if you dont want your fans spinning at ludicrous speed. On a small shelf in an enclosed entertainment unit will eventually fry your PS3, like mine.

I know w/ older PS3's most of the hot air comes from the right side (when placed horizontal) so if your going to use one fan towards the back (to exhaust the hot air) make sure it's in line w/ that side.
So far the both 80mm fans (one for the PS3 and one for the receiver) in my AV closet have really made a difference in removing the hot air. Only after watching several movies in a row or UT3 gaming for several hours will the fan bump up in speed. Before it only took about an hour to ramp up to full speed. Plus the receiver only gets slighty warm to the touch which is a vast improvement over the hot plate it was before the fan.
Well worth the $25 I spent on the two fans plus duct tubing.
