Kim Jong's off the rails, again. As poor as their country is, one of the biggest threats they pose is their ability to sell enriched uranium on the black market...and I'm sure they would have no qualms about doing so.

I'm sure Hillary and the UN will take of everything. Maybe they will send him some more porn or something like that. :2thumbs:

I guess if the US decides to invade, there is a much greater chance that there actually are WMDs there :D

From what I've been reading and hearing Kim Jong Il may not be in to things so heavily anymore. There's a lot of speculation that as his health deteriorates that it's some of his more hard line family and military officials making a move to get power once he abdicates or dies.

that reminds me of a quote from a book I read, "Out with the bad, In with the worse".

Don't rip on Canada too much, fellows, throughout the course of the war in Afghanistan, they've had the most troops helping out of any country.

Not only that but, a Canadian sniper team holds the record for the longest confirmed kill (in Afghanistan)...something like a mile.... with a .50

The US has the most troops, Canada is just in a second place tie with the Iraqi National Guard.

I'm happy that they contributed, but a simple jab at a Canadian pal has turned way too serious.

I'm guessing that's because it was the U.S. that was attacked.

No- its because we like to fight and police the worlds' BS :D
kidding of course- stop being so serious on a Friday please. It's really preventing me from finding a way to ruin my own day.

For the record, I am a Canadian citizen. :D
My jab was more at the UN's penchant for getting into bureaucratic gridlock and not responding effectively to serious issues that arise.
The sustained Afghan operation has been a significant shift in traditional CDN military policy. Judging from my sources on the ground, it's not been without sacrifice.... or reward.

I thought .50 snipers were only supposed to shoot vehicles and things like that.
Anyways being 1/2 Canadian and living close to the border I enjoy a good jab at Canadians. :2thumbs:

In theory and according to the Geneva Convention (or another one that came later, but some convention/accord), yes, .50s aren't supposed to be used against humans. In practice everyone ignores that one, including the U.S. Though the record setters are Canadian, so let them deal with any fallout. :D

I think it's a silly rule but what do I know. It's also good to know that there are other evil countries out there other then the U.S.

Silly Evil Twins-
dont you two realize that no one is allowed to kill anyone without an appointment that is authorized by the UN and ratified by the Geneva Conventions?:D
saying we cant use .50 cal sniper rifles is just stupid.
Are sling shots okay?

OMG! This is getting so old.....NK (or rather Kim Jong-il) starts running low on porn and Hennessey Cognac so he starts acting stupid so that we will pay him off to calm down. If we were smart we would completely ignore him. Just pretend that's he's the invisible quiet man. I would even abandon the DMZ and pull the troops out. Erase the name from all books and data and redraw all maps without NK. Just have a "Western Sea of Japan" instead. That would get the little hobbit....I mean "Dear Leader" angry. Don't worry he's not stupid enough to do anything about it.
If the world was a family and countries were the members, NK would be the spoiled little spastic brother. I hear that he has anounced his successor. His son Kim Jong-un who was schooled in Swiss boarding schools. He is already suffering from diabetes and hypertension. A chip off the old block?

Oh man, that would drive him so crazy, I can see him throwing the tantrum now. That would really drive him crazy.
The only problem now is he has nukes and I do believe he is too volatile.
I just wish I had an answer for what I thought we should do, but I honest don't know. I do know with all the countries springing up as nuclear powers we are in a very dangerous world today and there is not one perfect answer.
I guess my best answer is the UN needs to be united and very firm with their solution and this slap on the hand stuff with sanctions is not the answer.

BTW .50's are generally used as an anti material sniping platform as its uhhh overkill for a person. Why spend 5 $ a round when a 1 $ .308 will do the trick

I'm hoping China gets so fed up with NK that they just go in and trample them flat, heck, I don't even care if China takes over.

No- but we have plenty of band wagoneers who will switch from the "attack N. Korea" opinion to the peace talks side very shortly after we retalliate if the N. Koreans ever attack us.

I disagree. I think a past of soft handling has given him no reason to fear anything. I have also heard that he wants to use this scheme to show how strong he is to his people thus making his son a perfect shoe in. If they really did use a nuke in S. Korea then I think there would be plenty of allied troops to take care of him.

We actually do have enough force to go in, especially since we could and probably would divert up to maybe a quarter of the strength in Iraq to theater, but the problems are exhaustion and getting any troops there. Our projection capacity in terms of cargo and transport ships (especially) is severely lacking. Doesn't matter though; we're not going in unless or until Kim Jong Il moves south of the DMZ, and/or bombs the bejesus out of Seoul with the largest arty concentration on the planet.
We're at the point now where we would simply roll through them like a knife through butter if we had the right force structure in country. North Korea has numbers, but their capabilties are far below 1991 Iraqi abilities. But we simply don't have that force in place now, and it'll take weeks to build up.
As to Jeffro's point, there isn't anyone on Earth stupid enough to discount our armed forces, even Jong Il. We're stretched, strained, smaller by a ginormous amount than 15 years ago, and derided by many for our foreign policy, but we're still the most powerful military the world has ever known, and will be for another 10 years or so before someone can hope to catch up.
For Duke's point, if they actually drop a nuke on South Korea, there's probably a 75 percent chance we take out Pyongyang in kind. It would be 100 percent if China wasn't sitting right there to the north. Our stated policy on reaction in kind covers our allies, especially those most in need.
We'd probably leave Israel to take care of themselves with their stockpile, and as much as we like Poland right now, if Russia drops on Warsaw tomorrow, consider us to be looking the other way. Just about everyone else we're close to? It's all good, bro.
