I had a Sears Reverse Osmosis, and it worked really well, except that the faucet had some sort of problem and would start leaking after several months. After having to replace the faucet twice in 2 years, I ripped the system out and now use a faucet mounted cartridge filter system.
edit:
Get a breakdown of the water in your area, usually easy to obtain from your water provider. Lots of times you'll find it on you're local governments web pages. Look for a filter that specifically removes what you need removed. You may find that you don't need a very fancy filter at all.

Well thats why I'm in this predicament. We initially had a pur system on the facet. However from what I see the filter interval is like 2 to 3 months. Plus you have to be careful not to put hot water through it and it's bulky too. Some of the triple filtered under sink systems filter out chlorine, cysts and all the other bad stuff and last for two years. Plus you don't have this bulky flip thing on the facet. Price wasn't too bad at 80 -150... Less hassle, longer filter life. Although it's prolly twice as expensive.

Yeah - the on faucet can get in the way a little. I've really not had any concern about accidentally running hot water through it. And even though you have to change it more frequently, depending on where you end up mounting the under-sink filters, it may just a big hassle. Like I said, I went through 2 faucets in 2 years, make sure you get a good warranty on which ever unit you get.
Good luck.
