It is quite odd how he bowed to this slave keeping man, and bowing is a sign of being subjective to the monarch who is a leader to you.
This is by no means protocol, and shows Obama's other side. This should alarm more than one of you, and hopefully it would.
In fact, Mrs. Obama, broke protocol and 'touched' the Queen, and Mr. Obama bows to this guy?
A neck bow would have been appropriate not a full, head almost touching the ground bow.

He also said that he didn't speak Austrian. Imagine what the reaction would be if Sara Palin or Bush had said this.

So showing a little diplomacy is wrong all of a sudden? It's not like he got down on his knees and kissed his feet while spreading his cheeks. Quit fear mongering until we have something to fear.

Who's fear mongering? We are just pointing out how much of a noob the messiah is.

Well here is a report of a denial. There is a video in it and to me it looks like a bow but you be the judge.

OH NOES!!1! Our president displaying courtesy when he visits a foreign nation? How dare he show any form of respect for a leader he was meeting! He should have just punched him in the face and told him our demands!
Regardless of the meeting one should always display respect, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this.

No it shouldn't.

Watch the video.

Don't see a problem with it, i respect ppl's cultures even in my own country, i know a few ppl who's culture bow and i've always bowed to them when the need calls, or when its respectful to do so.
Maybe he did not have to bow to such an extent, looked like he was trying too hard to please, but aside from that.
You have to remember those ppl are here to work together, as one body, to acheive goals together, and respecting the cultures of the other attendies is part of that working together.

Doesn't look like a bow to me.
Even if it is... everyone already pointed out - Showing respect is a good thing.

If I extend my hand, you show respect by extending yours and shaking it. If you do not extend your hand, you are being disrespectful.
Omaba bows to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia; the king does not bow back.
From wiki: "Abdullah ranked No. 5 on Parade Magazine's 2009 World's Worst Dictators list,[19] ahead of Hu Jintao (China) and Ayatollah Khamenei (Iran)."

If you come over to my house, and we are in the habit of taking our shoes off when we come inside, and you dont- you are a jerkoff.
If I come over to your house, and I do that, I am a jerkoff.
It's that simple. But Obama is still an amateur for not arranging this in such a way that would allow this to be a positive instead of a negative. THAT is what I meant by Amateur.

Can you please elaborate as to why it would alarm people?
I don't know about the customs and what type of bow should or should not have done, but if he did it incorrectly, no major issue. Its as much as a gaff as Bush doing or saying something stupid and he should be up for ridicule as much as others have/were/will be. If Obama keeps screwing things up, then its another issue... he did muff during his inauguration, didn't he?
I'm sure he feels the pressures that everyone is putting on him.
Road_Ratt...nice to see you on the forums again. I was wondering how long it would take a new Padded Room to get the Ratt out of his hole. :)

I think the sense of alarm is generated more by a belief that the President of the United States shouldn't bow to anyone.
Which in many ways is ridiculous. He's not bowing in supplication, he's simply reflecting a custom of a culture.
No matter who he is, the President is not an Emperor or King, who wouldn't bow to anyone or even deign to notice most people. It doesn't hurt to show some respect for the cultures of others.

I don't think it's too much of a deal but the fact that he is bowing to a slave owner is kind of ironic. It's just another dog and pony show. :D
