"To help Mexico" I love the excuses they use.
Mexican government officials have complained that the availability of sophisticated guns from the United States have emboldened drug traffickers to fight over access routes into the U.S.
A State Department travel warning issued Feb. 20, 2009, reflected government concerns about the violence.
"Some recent Mexican army and police confrontations with drug cartels have resembled small-unit combat, with cartels employing automatic weapons and grenades," the warning said. "Large firefights have taken place in many towns and cities across Mexico, but most recently in northern Mexico, including Tijuana, Chihuahua City and Ciudad Juarez."
What the hell does that have to do with an "assault weapon" ban? Fully automatic weapons are already illegal in the US unless you have a special license, and last time I checked it wasn't legal to buy grenades either.

Not to mention the Mexican police that are on the cartels' payroll, taking bribes, and probably supplying weapons as well.
Instead further bans on firearms, they should look at increasing border security, since I'm pretty sure taking firearms, of any type, across the border is illegal.

Let us:
- Tax the wealthy business's: that should help us limit growth.
- Tax the wealthy people: the last thing we need now is their investment in small and med size businesses- after all, we dont need the job growth or consumption they provide.
- Create more welfare for people who dont work: After all, they are the US governments best customers! they havent worked for years and now they wont ever have to think about that.
- Add more social programs: More money out- less money in! Yeah!
- Focus on Socially Acceptable Programs: Assault Gun bans, Birth-control programs, etc. I mean we dont have anything else to do right?
Two things on this idiot we call Mr. President:
1) It's a race to spend the money on all the things Democrats were denied in the last 8 years before the money runs out
2) It's about weakening the US into acceptance. The weaker we are the more accepting we will be of the socialist agenda. Taking away assault rifles will make taking away higher power weapons easier, which will lead to a further ban, and another, until the weapons in circulation would never be able to be defensive.

Yeah, we're really riding high on the hog after the tax cuts for the rich went into place: jobs coming out of our kazoos.
And as far as racing to spend the money, check out the budget deficits. The big spending started with Reagan (this is when the "trickle down" miracle began), was improved upon by Senior Bush, and was on steroidal growth under Bush Jr. http://i38.tinypic.com/sgh9cn.gif
The common Republican talking point is that Democrats are "tax and spend". They don't talk much, however, about their own spending habits, or how "cut taxes and spend" does little but delay problems for, guess what, Democratic leaders...who then either have to raise taxes and be labeled "tax and spend", or they have to cut government programs that were in place during the Republican reign. Either way, the Republicans can call them the bad guys...which will get them re-elected in 4-8 years, when the cycle can begin again.
Some day somebody has to pay our debt...and most of it, according to the chart, was accumulated under Republican administrations. I'll admit the Democrats spend money on some dumb things...but I'd have to say, it seems the Republicans have outpaced them by a long shot, statistically. So maybe don't be so outraged by Democratic spending...at least not until there's another party in office who can do things right/better.

Obama is a Liberal and this is just the one of many policies that prove that. The second amendment means little to his crowd. It wont be long before the assault on the first one starts.

Not using bodies of fallen heroes is a whole different story then trying to silence opposition.

you can keep looking into that corner until you are blue in the face. the economy is damaged thanks to the lack of oversight by Clinton.
That is a fact. Bank deregulation and the lack of oversight on the ways that financial institutions diluted risk are the problems we fact today.
Keep pounding that drum- when it breaks you will see the light.

My mistake, Hammy, you're right again. I'll just through out all of these useless FACTS! :D

I think the recent budget would show this to be the case. I would also think it's the spending problems the Republicans had are the reason they are out of power now.

Respectfully made. Thank you, Duke. I see your side, and agree that both sides have a tendency to spend money (like mad) on unnecessary/unwise things. I only hope that someday somebody puts this country back together again...it doesn't matter which side they come from (probably "none of the above" would be the winning answer).

The Republicans stress fiscal responsibility when they are not in power, or at least not totally in power. When the Republicans controlled congress and Clinton was in the White House, they did pretty well. As soon as GW got in office, that seemed to go out the window...
EDIT: I guess that is what Duke referred to.. :)

Yes I do agree that using images of caskets could be controversial. However by not allowing it I believe it has a chilling effect on news that is important to America. There is obviously a taste issue. I could understand castigating any press that went about it in a less then sensitive manner.

Umm the whole war thing is huge drain on funds. To not include it in the budget seems ludicrous to me. Where is the fiscal responsibility in that.
My thought at this point is that the government has spend at this point. I don't care if it's on BS or not. Thats not the point. The point is to get cash stuffed into the economy. Taxes cuts do not do that. Government spending does.

This package doesn't throw money directly into the economy unless you are talking about theses "shovel ready" projects and they are only a small portion of the package. The rest of it is just to spend money on whatever socialist programs they want and it will not build long term jobs.
Do you really not care if the spending is BS? I guess that's what they want from you.

Look in any large organization there will be graft and corruption at some level. No matter who is in charge. That is just back ground noise. When it comes to pumping cash into the economy the government is the only thing that can do it on such a massive scale. That is exactly what needs to happen now. On some level some projects will be shite and some won't. It is impossible to start the cash moving and oversight everything. Just start already.

The thing is government doesn't make money they take it from the producers and with the amount they are spending now they will be taxing the prosperity of many generations to come.

The assault weapon ban is crazy. All weapons sold to the general public are only semi-auto for the most part. To get a full assualt weapon you need some pretty good dough and it's covered by strict regulation. The average joe isn't getting the fully auto weapon legitimately anyway.

Not true depending on what state your in you can get full auto. Hell most states for a 200 buck tax stamp you can get a silencer. Not in Cali though. A frtiend of mine wants to get a brake muzzle for his Ranch rifle but, most of them say "Works as a flash suppressor too" which is illegal in Cali.
